Fiance(e) Visas - (K-1 Visas)

A US citizen can sponsor his/her fiance(e) who seeks to enter the United States solely to enter into a valid marriage with the US citizen petitioner. The alien fiance(e) must marry the petitioning US citizen within 90 days after entry. Both the citizen and the fiance(e) must have previously met within 2 years of filing the petition and have no legal impediments to marry each other. Significant proof of the relationship must be shown to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services.

After approval from immigration, the fiance(e) will be granted an interview before consular officers at the embassy or consulate in the alien’s home country. These officers will check the petitioner’s financial information to make sure that he/she can care for the fiance(e). If the interview is successful, the fiance(e) will be granted the K-1 visa to enter the United States.

Minor children of the fiance(e) can accompany the alien as K-2 visa holders.
